Wake up to Nick Symmonds vs Khadevis Robinson at 2008 USA Indoors

We’ve all seen Nick Symmonds and Khadevis Robinson duke it out over 800 meters plenty of times. In light of the big meet in Albuquerque this weekend, here’s a race from 2008 USA Indoors that you might not remember.

The race turned out to be a passing of the torch moment. Though Robinson narrowly eeked out the victory, it was the last major win he’d have over Symmonds.

Robinson had dominated the U.S. 800 meter scene for several years, winning the national outdoor title in 2005, 2006 and 2007. But when it came to the summer of 2008, chaos reigned at the Olympic Trials when Symmonds won that legendary 800 meter final. Robinson finished just off the Olympic team in fourth.

From that point on, Symmonds was the American half-mile king. He won USA Outdoors in the 800 five consecutive years from 2008 to 2012. Interestingly, Robinson was the runner-up in three of those races — 2009, 2011 and 2012.
