Wake up to Matt Centrowitz and Miles Batty’s 2012 Wanamaker Mile thriller

By Chris Chavez

February 8, 2017

We continue Millrose Week on Citius Mag with a more recent throwback video that featured a great battle between Matt Centrowitz and Miles Batty.

Four years later, it’s crazy how life turns out differently for different people. Centrowitz is the Olympic gold medalist in the 1,500 and Batty is a med student.

Batty’s American collegiate record of 3:54.54 still stands but Izaic Yorks did run 3:53.89 last year at the Dempsey.

Centrowitz went on to win the 2015 and 2016 Wanamaker Mile. He has elected to run the two-mile on Saturday instead of going for the three-peat. The last person to win three consecutive Wanamaker Miles was Bernard Lagat, who held the crown from 2006 to 2010.
