The Best and Worst Things About Marathon Training Thus Far

By David Melly

October 18, 2019

If you follow me on Instagram then you know that I like to create lists for my Instagram story on Fridays. This week, I posed a running-related one about some lessons that I’ve learned in my preparation and Olympic Marathon Trials chase that’s coming at CIM.

Top 5 best things about marathon training so far:

  1. Using mileage to justify eating ice cream every night
  2. Cheaper to drink because you get lit off two beers
  3. Sleeping late technically counts as “recovery”
  4. No one is mad when you bail on plans because you’re tired
  5. Marathon pace is slower than half marathon pace

Top 5 worst things about marathon training so far:

  1. Single-digit mileage days no longer exist
  2. Long runs and recovering from long runs take up an entire weekend day
  3. My Butt is literally always sore
  4. I’m not allowed to take naps at work
  5. Standing on the train after workouts is nearly impossible
