Reed Brown joins the high school sub-four minute mile club

By Ryan Sterner

June 2, 2017

Reed Brown, a senior at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas, ran 3:59.30 on Thursday night to become just the 10th U.S. high school boy in history to break four minutes for the mile. Brown secured his spot in history at the St Louis Festival of Miles with a 57-second last lap. His kick would put him in 3rd place behind Wisconsin junior Morgan McDonald and Australian Rorey Hunter.

Prior to tonight, Brown’s personal best was a balmy 4:03.23. With this run, he moves up to No. 4 on the prestigious all time high school miler list–four of which have come in the last two years.

Brown has committed to run for Oregon in the fall. He has already displayed some success at Hayward Field when he won last summer’s high school exhibition mile during the U.S. Olympic Trials. He also boasts personal bests of 1:53.41 for 800 meters, 8:51.87 for 3,200 meters and 14:37.51 for 5,000 meters.

You know what we here at Citius say about teens these days: they love memes and they love to run fast.
