Running Documentaries and Videos You Should Watch #6: When Running Was For Weirdos

By R.J. McNichols

May 31, 2017

Track and field has always been one of the centerpieces of the Olympics and I always thought running was something people did for recreation or sport since the times of Ancient Greece. That was all until I watched “When Running Was For Weirdos.”

Vox’s Phil Edwards produced a quirky historical documentary digging deep on how did running or “jogging” get discovered. How did it blossom into what running has become today? Edwards touches upon how some U.S. places considered running a crime. Where did treadmills come from? (This one may surprise you) How did the jogging boom come about?

The quick 4.5 minute video will give you appreciation on the history of running.
