At the 2018 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Gwen Jorgensen sent running shoe junkies into a frenzy when she ran the 10,000 meters with a pair of custom made Nike Vaporfly 4% shoes with a custom spike plate. She finished in seventh place and a video was later released about her footwear.
We thought it was cool and then…we got a message from a loyal Citwit from Ohio. Derek Knabe decided to run a one mile race in a pair of Brooks Addiction Walkers. We’ve been hearing a lot of ideas floating around about how we should do a Monarch Mile and put out a challenge for the fastest mile run in a pair of Nike Monarchs. These Brooks Addiction Walkers are right up there with the dad shoe culture that’s poppin’ in 2018.
Derek decided to Frankenstein a pair of them by removing the spike plate off an old pair Nike Matumbos and then created his own pair of custom spikes. He made a video of it, which you can watch below:
Derek ended up running 5:03. He’s been looking on the internet to see if it’s a world record for the Addiction Walkers – we’re going to go ahead and say it is. We want to see him go sub-five this summer so this is probably not the last that you’ll hear of Derek.
