The 2024 edition of the Chicago Marathon takes place on Sunday, Oct. 13th and will still feature a strong elite field despite the absence of many top Olympians who competed in Paris.
The women's field is headlined by Ethiopia's Sutume Kebede, who ran a world-leading 2:15:55 to win the Tokyo Marathon in March. Two-time Chicago champion Ruth Chepngetich is back after finishing second to Sifan Hassan in last year’s race.
On the men’s side, London champion Amos Kipruto and Berlin runner-up Vincent Ngetich are the headliners. Daniel Ebenyo, the World Championships 10,000m and half marathon silver medalist is set to make his highly-anticipated marathon debut.
The American contingent is filled with athletes who narrowly missed making the Olympic team, including Betsy Saina, Emma Bates, Keira D’Amato, Zach Panning and CJ Albertson. For the women, it would not be a shock to see Saina, D’Amato and Bates possibly eyeing the American record on Chicago’s flat course.
