Christian Miller, the U.S. high school star who finished fifth in the 100 meter final at the U.S. Olympic Trials, has decided to forego his NCAA eligibility at Georgia and turn pro.

Here’s what you need to know:

– Miller just wrapped up his senior year at Creekside High School (FL) and was planning to run for the Georgia Bulldogs this fall.

Miller made the announcement on Instagram and wrote:

"I want to start by thanking God for the amazing opportunities that have opened up for me over the past few weeks.

I’d like to say thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for their never-ending support and for helping me navigate all the decisions that have led me to this point.

Also, thank you to the University of Georgia staff, student athletes, and my fellow recruits for their support and professionalism. I will always be a Bulldog at heart.

After weeks of consultation with my family, mentors, and coaches, I have decided to forgo my NCAA eligibility and pursue a professional career as a full-time track and field athlete. I’m excited for what comes next and can’t wait to bring you all on this journey with me."

– Miller’s finish at the Trials made him a formidable candidate to be selected by USA Track and Field for the 4x100 meter relay but the national team passed on him.

– Miller ran a personal best of 9.93s in April, which held up as the fastest time in the world for a few weeks. He went on to clock a 9.95 at New Balance National Outdoors on June 14th and then 10.22, 9.94 and 9.98 in the three rounds of the U.S. Olympics Trials last month.

– Miller was considered the No. 1 high school sprints recruit in the country and was named the Gatorade National Player of The Year for track and field.
