August 23, 2024

Nia Akins, the three-time U.S. 800m champion and 2024 U.S. Olympian, has parted ways with Brooks and is no longer a member of the Brooks Beasts Track Club.

Here’s what you need to know:

– Akins raced at the Lausanne Diamond League on Aug. 22 wearing an all-black, unbranded kit. She finished 10th in the race in 2:00.00.

– Shortly after the race, Brooks issued the following statement to CITIUS MAG confirming they have parted ways.

"At Brooks, we place a high value on listening to our athletes and supporting them in the best way possible. Nia made the decision to step away from being a member of the Brooks Beasts Track Club. We are proud that Nia began her professional career with Brooks in 2020, and since then became the reigning U.S. 800m indoor & outdoor national champion and represented Team USA and Brooks on the Olympic stage. We wish her continued success."

– Akins signed with Brooks in June 2020 after graduating from Penn. Since joining the team, she has lowered her 800m personal best to 1:57.36 and won the 2023 U.S. indoor and 2023 U.S. outdoor 800m titles. She defended her national title in June and won the U.S. Olympic Trials to qualify for her first Summer Games.

– At the Paris Olympics, she reached the semifinals. Last summer, she finished sixth in the World Championship final in Budapest.

– Akins is slated to race the 1000m at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday.
