February 26, 2025

Olympian, World Indoor silver medalist and eight-time U.S. champion Nikki Hiltz announced they have re-signed with Luluemon through 2028 and is now being coached by Juli Benson and will remain in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Hiltz was coached by Mike Smith from the start of 2022 through the end of the 2025 indoor season. Hiltz just swept the U.S. indoor 1500m and 3000m titles but will pass on their spot on Team USA for the World Indoor Championships to prepare for the inaugural season of Grand Slam Track on April 4th-6th in Kingston, Jamaica.

“As I chase my own home Olympic berth and some global championship hardware myself, Juli’s wealth of knowledge and firsthand experience of being in the spikes herself makes me incredibly excited for the journey ahead!” Hiltz wrote on Instagram.

Benson was a member of the 1996 Olympic team and ran professionally for seven years. In addition to coaching at Georgetown, UPenn and the U.S. Air Force Academy, she also coached Jenny Simpson to her 2011 World Championship gold medal.

Since the start of 2023, Hiltz has won two U.S. Indoor 1500m titles, two U.S. Outdoor 1500m titles (including last summer’s U.S. Olympic Trials), one U.S. road mile title and one U.S. indoor 3000m title. They have run personal best of 1:59.03 for 800m, 3:55.33 for 1500m, 4:16.35 for the mile (American record) and 8:32.52 for 3000m. They finished seventh in the Olympic 1500m final.

This summer, Smith is leaving his head coaching role with Northern Arizona University to become a professional coach with Nike’s Swoosh TC in Flagstaff, Arizona. All of Smith’s pro athletes who are sponsored by other brands can continue training with Smith only until their current contract ends. Hiltz opted to re-sign with Lululemon and make a coaching switch.
