Noah Lyles Responds To Tyreek Hill’s Claims He Could Beat The Olympic Champion: He’s Just Chasing Clout

August 18, 2024

100m Olympic champion Noah Lyles responded to Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s claims that he would beat the professional sprinter in a footrace.

Here’s what you need to know:

– In an appearance on the “Up & Adams” podcast, Hill said: "I would beat Noah Lyles. I'm not going to beat him by a lot, but I would beat Noah Lyles.”

– In the days following Hill’s comments, several mainstream sports media outlets were able to dig up a clip of Noah Lyles saying he couldn’t remember Tyreek Hill’s name. The clip was actually from June 8th, 2023 – before Lyles had even made any of his ‘World champion’ comments at the 2023 World Championships. Lyles’ remarks came in response to the question: If you could coach another athlete or celebrity in your sport, who would it be? Lyles’ full response was: “What’s the cheetah guy from football? Well, I can’t remember his name…I would coach Tyreek Hill to run track.”

– On Saturday night, Lyles appeared on “Nightcap” and was asked by Shannon Sharpe about Hill’s comments. Here’s how Lyles responded: “Tyreek is just chasing clout. Anytime somebody fast comes up, he says he wants to race them. If he really wanted to race people, he would’ve shown up like D.K. Metcalf. The man raced in the 60m this year in the Masters division. The man dodges smoke. I don’t have time for that…If he’s truly serious about it – I’m not talking about you just talking on the internet and you ain’t actually coming to me and talking to my agent and saying let’s set something up – if you’re seriously about it, you’ll see me on the track.”

– Lyles is right on several accounts. In 2022, Hill has previously said that he would be faster than Usain Bolt. Bolt responded by saying, “He got beaten by some linebacker! He ain't ready for this!...I'm the fastest man in the world. What do you mean?!"

D.K. Metcalf, who actually raced the 100m in a professional meet in 2021 and ran 10.37s, has said that Hill has been all talk and ducked him for a race.

– At last year’s USATF Masters Indoor Championships, Tyreek Hill ran 6.7s for 60m. Lyles owns a personal best of 6.43 from his win at the U.S. Indoor Championships this year. Hill was a good high school sprinter and holds a personal best of 9.98s for the 100m from the 2013 NJCAA Championships. Lyles ran a personal best of 9.79s to win the Olympic title in Paris.
