U.S. 400m champion Quincy Hall responded on X and Instagram after hearing Noah Lyles’ recent comments on the Track World News Podcast on who he’d put on the Team USA 4x400m relay for the Paris Olympics.
Here’s what you need to know:
– When asked by podcast host Noah Williams (who also trains with Lyles) on who the 100m and 200m world champion would put on the 4x400m relay, Lyles went with Chris Bailey as his lead-off leg, put himself as the second led, selected Michael Norman as his pick for the third leg and put Rai Benjamin as the anchor.
– Lyles said: “The only reason I wouldn’t use the current U.S. champion is because I don’t think he would be a starter. I feel like using him on the first leg would just be almost like a waste to his talent. I just don’t see him getting his full capability out of the first leg.”
– Hall tweeted: “@LylesNoah I don’t bother nobody but my blocks ready anytime you feel like you can beat me in the 400 you was talking to much on my name on yo little podcast @TrackWorldNews1 I don’t do the little slick comments and remarks I line up 💯🐶”
And followed up with: “To the people thinking I’m a bad person cause my last post you just gotta know me to know I’m a competitor always have been so don’t take nun personal I’m just ready for anybody and everybody i won and lost before but always been a dog while doing it 🐶🐶💯”
– Hall is coming off a 43.80 to win the Monaco Diamond League to set a new world-leading time and moved to No. 9 on the U.S. all-time list.
– Lyles has been vocal about hoping to be part of the Team USA 4x400 team in Paris to try and come away with medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. He has not run an open 400m race this year but was a member of the U.S. team that took silver at the World Indoor Championships. Lyles split 45.68 on the third leg. Lyles’ personal best in the 400m is still 47.04 from 2016 when he was in high school. He has not run an open 400m since then.
– Hall shared more on Instagram stories: “No tenderness no beef just heard my name so I’m ready.”
