The Paris Olympic showcased more than just extraordinary athletic feats —they delivered a series of unforgettable moments that made us laugh, captivated our hearts, and sparked our imaginations. From personal anthems to viral fails and emotional highlights, track and field offered some of the most memorable scenes both in and out of competition.
Here’s a quick roundup of the standout moments that made this Olympics even more special:
1. The Ingebritz playing in the Olympic stadium when Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 5000m gold medal
It’s surely the stuff of dreams - having your own song playing when you win gold. More of this please - I’m surprised Noah Lyles hasn’t had his track played for any of his golds - Speed Racer seems fitting! And maybe next time we can get the “Brooks Beats” or the “Bowerman Bros” to officially drop a track!
For those who were in the stadium the whole week, it was also nice to be free from the unofficial anthem of the games ‘Freed from Desire’, if only for a few brief moments.
2. The saga of Gianmarco Tamberi
Drama follows Tamberi wherever he goes (or maybe he creates it - who knows?) and we live for it! He lost his wedding ring in the Seine during the opening ceremony and wrote the most beautiful Instagram apology to his wife. I’m sure it sounds even more beautiful in Italian, but even the Instagram translation is poetic.
‘I think there might be a huge poetic side to yesterday’s misdeed, and if you want, we’ll throw yours into that river too, so they’ll be together forever, and we’ll have one more excuse to, like you’ve always asked, renew our vows and get married to new’
He promptly had even more drama ending up in hospital on the day of the high jump final and brought us all along for the ride on his Instagram.
3. French Pole Vaulter Anthony Ammirati’s viral pole vault fail
OK so this technically did happen during the competition, but became a memorable moment. This is a family friendly website so not sure how much more I can say, but let’s just say it went viral - go find it on youtube or social media now, and be aware it is NSFW!
4. Shot put gold medalist Yemisi Ogunleye’s amazing singing in the press conference
When a journalist asked what song was going through Yemisi Ogunleye’s head in preparation for her gold medal winning throw in the last round, she proceeded to give a full rendition of the gospel song I Almost Let Go. If all press conferences were like this they would be much more fun for sure!
5. The Conner Mantz Clayton Young High-Five
The high-five is back. As Conner and Clayton linked back together in the second half of the Olympic marathon we got another awesome high-five on the broadcast. Clayton claimed in the recap that there hadn’t been any practising of the high-fives since Orlando - I’m not sure we believe this given the level of success here!
