One of the best marathons of the spring gets underway very early on the East Coast with the 2017 London Marathon taking place across the pond.
The men’s race is highlighted by three-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time world champion and No. 2 all-time marathoner Kenenisa Bekele taking on his Ethiopian rival and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Feyisa Lilesa. The women’s race also features a very strong field. There are four women with personal bests under 2:20. Two-time champion Mary Keitany could be considered the favorite. A new champion will be crowned as last year’s winner Jemima Sumgong tested positive for EPO earlier in the month. 2015 champion and 2016 runner-up Tigist Tufa is the next-best returner.
Get ready as the race from Blackheath to The Mall at Buckingham Palace will be a quick one.
