Fantasy Diamond League Update – Shanghai 2017

By Justin Britton

May 12, 2017

Fantasy Diamond League Shanghai edition is here for this year, as we close in on just one day to go till the Chinese version of the series. Doha kicked off the 2017 Diamond League last week with some impressive times and thrilling races but I’m sure the Chinese have something special up their sleeves this week.

Lots of us are excited for the meet to get started but in all honestly, all I really care about is seeing the men’s high jump. To be more honest, I don’t really care about who wins the high jump, I just care about what Guowei Zhang does in his post-jump celebration(s).

But for real, lets get down to business for some Fantasy Diamond League Shanghai talk and also talk about Fantasy Diamond League Doha from a few days earlier. We have over 100 teams in our league and over 80% of you remembered to also choose nine people for your lineup in time for the shindig in Qatar. Kudos to you.

So far in our Fantasy Diamond League, we have the top 60 teams putting up over 100 points after the first event, a stacked field. In the top 10, there is a spread of 28 points from “Chris Lotsbom’s Team in 10th to La Rana Suelle Stelle” (not sure what this means but there was effort involved and I applaud that). During last weeks meet the big Thomas Röhler tossed the stick in the Jav 93.90m, a DL record, Caster Semenya casually opened her season with a 1:56 800m and the Qataris saw home victories in the 400m and the high jump.

There are a lot of names who could bring down the house and have the non-existent social media in China booming on Saturday. For starters, two-time Olympic 800m champion, David Rudisha is lining up in his signature event. Don’t toss all of your cash at him, as he was just 5th last year here. He’ll have to fend off some fellow Kenyans and the Polish ping pong of Marcel Lewandowski and Adam Kszczot. The East Africans will also load up in the women’s 1500m with the Rio Gold medalist Faith Kipyegon.

For those who don’t salivate over distance running, there will be some excitement in the hurdles. I mean just look at these names and credentials. 2016 Olympic Gold medalist Omar McLeod, ’16 Silver Medalist Orlando Ortega from Spain, Aries Merritt who is the world record holder, David Oliver who is the 2013 World Champion plus so many others that I don’t know who the hell is funding all of these appearance fees for a 13 second event but I am intrigued and I love it.

I can go through every event, but I’m currently late for lunch nd need to stop typing. For those who aren’t in our Fantasy Diamond League, JOIN IT HERE. Code is: 3076197
