Running Documentaries and Videos You Should Watch #7: How One Wrong Turn Changed Jim Walmsley’s Career

By R.J. McNichols

June 27, 2017

This one is in honor of Western State’s 100 happening over the weekend. Just a few days before the race, 9MINDAsylum and Outside Magazine released a documentary on ultra-running’s newest star Jim Walmsley. For those of you who don’t know who Jim Walmsley is, feel free to Google: “Jim Walmsley Western States 2016” or “Jim Walmsley Rim to Rim to Rim” before you begin watching this documentary.

You can also listen to this podcast that Paul Snyder and Stephen Kersh did with him two weeks ago.

The title may allude to his infamous wrong turn at Mile 93, but the documentary shows how much Jim has overcome in his recent years and will inspire other preserver through the rocky times one may endure in their life.

By the end of the 14 minute documentary, you’ll be rooting for Jim’s next course record attempt in an ultra or a wild run up and down whatever mountain he chooses. He unfortunately did not win this year’s race.
