The big picture: The inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship runs Friday through Sunday in Budapest, airing live on NBC, NBCSN and Peacock. The inaugural event features eight to 16 athletes per event, no country limits, national uniforms, and a $10 million purse.

The format: Events 800m and shorter get semifinals and finals. Everything longer, plus every field event, is a straight final. Three days of competition, three hours each.
