Track and Field has entered Netflix’s exploration into sports documentary series after success with Formula 1’s Drive to Survive, golf’s Full Swing and tennis’ Break Point, according to Deadline.

What you need to know:

– Netflix’s track and field documentary series will be produced by Box to Box Films – the same production company behind Drive to Survive, Break Point and Full Swing. The series will be produced by Paul Martin, James Gay-Rees, Warren Smith, Dan Bradley and Dara Horenblas.

–As previously reported, the cameras have been following athletes at this year’s Diamond League meets and were spotted at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Filming will also take place at the World Championships in Budapest.

Which athletes will be featured in Netflix’s track documentary?

– A finalized list of athletes has not been released. It is believed Netflix has been following the top sprinters for the first edition of the show. Fred Kerley hinted at his involvement in a Twitter exchange with Sam Parsons in now-deleted tweets. Deadline reports that the show will have “sprinters from the U.S. Jamaica, the United Kingdom, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Italy.”

A previous report from the Daily Mail named former 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith and Noah Lyles, who also has his own documentary series with NBC’s Peacock coming this week, as two of the sprinters involved. Deadline confirmed Lyles’ involvement but also mentioned Christian Coleman and Marie-Josée Ta Lou will be part of it

When will it come out?

There has not been a release date announced yet but Deadline reports the six-part series will launch in 2024.

A new season of ‘Drive to Survive’ is typically released a week or two prior to the start of the upcoming Formula 1 season. By this logic, the new series could debut ahead of the start of the 2024 Diamond League season or closer to the start of the Paris Olympics.
