Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Will Not Run The 200m At World Championships

Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, last year’s 200m world championship silver medalist, will not contest the 200m at this year’s world championships in Budapest.

Here’s what you need to know:

– Fraser-Pryce has raced sparingly since coming back from a knee injury. She opened up her 2023 season at the Jamaican national championships and finished second to Shericka Jackson in the final. Her season’s best for 200m is 22.26s.

– Fraser-Pryce will focus her efforts on the 100m, where she is the reigning champion. She ran 10.82s in Luzern on July 20th, which quelled some injury concerns. She followed it up with a 10.83 victory in Madrid just two days later.

– On Instagram, she wrote: “ I’m taking my time, paying attention to the details, and trusting my gut. Lucerne and Madrid were definitely a step in the right direction as I continue to piece together the road to Budapest”

– She is the fourth-fastest woman in the 100m this year behind Jackson (10.65s); Sha’Carri Richardson (10.71) and Marie Josee Ta Lou (10.75).

– Fraser Pryce owns one 200m gold medal at the World Championships from her golden treble at the 2013 world championships in Moscow with the 100m and 4x100m relay. She also owns the 2012 Olympic bronze medal in the 200m.

– She could still run the 4x100m relay for Jamaica. They took silver to the United States at last year’s World Championships.

– Jamaica will have Jackson, Natalliah Whyte (22.39 SB), Kevona Davis (22.33 SB), and Ashanti Moore (22.49 SB) running the 200m. Davis was fifth in the 100m and third in the 200m at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the Texas Longhorns.
