Harvard junior Maia Ramsden, the 2023 NCAA champion at 1500m, has signed a Name Image Likeness deal with On.
Here’s what you need to know:
– Ramsden is one of the best runners in the Ivy League and closed hard (63.27 for her final lap) to win the 1500m in 4:08.60 at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin in June.
– Much like Stanford’s Ky Robinson, Juliette Whittaker and Cole Sprout, who have signed NIL deals with On while competing at a Nike-backed school, Ramsden will not be able to wear On at practice or Harvard-organized events but can wear the products on her own runs and in certain postseason competitions.
– Ramsden represents New Zealand internationally and has won U20 national titles in the 1500m and 800m. She attended high school at the International Community School of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
– In cross country, she was the 2022 Ivy League champion and then finished 11th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
– Ramsden holds Harvard’s school records in the indoor 1000m (2:43.03); outdoor 1500m (4:08.60), indoor mile (4:30.19), indoor 3000m (8:54.39) and outdoor 5000m (15:40.05).
– Ramsden has put together a strong start to the 2023 cross country season with victories at the HYP meet in New Haven, Connecticut (4K in 13:35.9) and the Beattle in Beantown (5K in 17:00.1). This week, she will head to Madison, Wisconsin to compete in the Nuttycombe Invite. She was 7th in last year’s race.
What she had to say:
Ramsden: “I'm super excited for the opportunity to join such a forward-looking company! I think that On's focus on sustainability is awesome and should be a role model for other athletic brands. I am appreciative of the culture of On where athletes are contributing directly to developing both products and big ideas, including about sustainable futures. I also think On's international community of athletes who are genuinely friends with one another is an amazing thing to get to be a part of.”
Here’s a running list of some of the top NCAA track and field stars and their respective NIL deals with major sportswear brands:
– NC State’s Katelyn Tuohy with Adidas
– Florida’s Parker Valby with Nike
– Notre Dame’s Olivia Markezich with On
– Stanford’s Roisin Willis with New Balance
– Stanford’s Ky Robinson with On
– Stanford’s Juliette Whittaker with On
– Stanford’s Cole Sprout with On
